Diabetes mellitus is a common disease in both dogs and cats. The good news is that animals with diabetes can lead full, happy and — yes — healthy lives. A close relationship among you, your pet and your veterinarian is the key to successfully living with and caring for a diabetic pet.

Don't Fence in your pet with haphazard care, but reach out for the professional tools, advice, and preparation to keep you confident you are giving your pet the best treatment for diabetes.

MAKE A SPLASH...... when you put one foot in to keeping diabetes under control by utilizing a toolkit to grab for on the go and the necessary tools to manage a chronic illness emergency. Everyone loves the laughter and noise of fun, but sometimes taking that first step into cold water can be frightening especially when you can't imagine FUN. Make a splash, kick up some water knowing you can handle anything a new disease to you and your pet can bring by just being prepared.

Do not be caught off guard (you, pet care giver) when you need information or resources to keep your pet in check and feeling normal. You and your pet can enjoy the water when you have the right raft to keep you safe and afloat. Just pull all your rescue tools together and enjoy the day, whether at the park or beach. KEEP THE LIGHT ON..........for a cure and diabetes mentor for people and pets!

Never give up on what may seem like an emotional strain to manage diabetes in people and pets. Diabetics can survive and live a "new normal" life with the help of doctors, mentors, and tools available to make that "new normal workable".

So what do the care givers of diabetics do????? Get a Support System in the way of the following:

A. Veterinarian, Doctor
B.   Mentor/Coach - someone to help not only the diabetic, but the care giver, with the emotional side of diabetes, no matter what age, gender,
C.   Written Guidelines listing all the available tools via a pharmacy, drug store, pet store, etc, and the 'why" to use it
D.   Kit - organize your treatment, management and physical stability

So the next time you reach for that light switch to turn on the light, think about the survival of the fit, not only physical, but emotional, and look for our Mentoring Services coming in January, 2011, for people caring for diabetes and diabetics. Sophie Marie

My birthday was over Thanksgiving and I received a birthday present that is ever so loving, welcoming and a constant companion. Her name is Sophie Marie. She is a rescue from not only a puppy mill but an unloving family after her working time with a puppy mill. She is a yorkshire terrier that is 4.5 years old, 7 lbs (seems heavier since she always wants to be carried and eat), no front teeth, and a survivor. :)

Our story of how I came to receive Sophie is one that only God could orchestrate through a series of people who knew a person in NC that found Sophie on top of a mountain at her home that drove to Johns Creek, GA, to find the right care giver for a pet that needed the right home - ME. What a Merry Christmas and Happy BirthdAY 2010 is and will be.

NYC MACY'S Thanksgiving Day Parade........

What a treat to be at this live event! These helium balloons are huge-!! It would be Difficult to Fence This Dog IN!!!Thanksgiving is a family time, food time, and teaser for the Christmas season! As treats float around for people to eat, please watch what and how much of the treats your diabetic pet gets. Watch the food content as you would for people. Let them get some exercise to work off the food and pent up excitement of the season.

Sounds like a recipe for People and Pets. Most of all, Enjoy their good health as you have cared for their diabetic needs this year. There is nothing like a Happy Pet!

Earlier this year a donation of empty Diapetic Rescue kits were supplied to SAMARITAN's PURSE for their international medical mission. These kits will be used to house medical supplies for those less fortunate to have medicine, much less a means to house it. This organization was thrilled to have such a gift for the people they serve.

I, in turn, was blessed to be a part of such a Christian movement and organization who puts the well being of others in the forefront.

The Efforts of many have made the Diapetic Rescue Toolkits available to a growing population of people and pets who need help in this world at a cost more than a profit. In an initial diagnosis of diabetes, a 2 shot per day prescription is typical. Based on an estimated population of 343,000 diabetic cats and dogs in the US, that means 686k syringes disposed of daily or 20,580,000 disposed of monthly!!!!

Did you know the one food group that never spoils is: Honey!
Did you also know that Honey is one of the fastest methods to escalate a low blood sugar of both a diabetic person and pet? Low Blood Sugar is not only detected by checking the blood sugar but also one of the symptoms is DISORIENTATION.

The Diapetic Rescue kit contains a tube of honey sticks in which you crack open a stick and squeeze the honey into the pets mouth should their blood sugar begin to fall too low. Feels that way somedays! Someone took the time to braid the hair of this beautiful horse, but just so someone could look at him within the 4 fenced walls!

I believe our pets with diabetes feel that way EVERYDAY, only their dress is the routine of syringes, insulin, pills, and someone watching over them to make sure they are alright!!

Would it not be great to have some help in a toolkit to manage the disease versus it managing them and Us? A toolkit that guides you how to basically "braid their hair" and take down the gates of fear in diabetes. Our pets can live a happy life, just take control of the reins (with a little help) and let them kick their heels up!

Looking for a CURE from Diabetes....

On October 17, 2010, my sister, Kris Klingseisen, Bogie, Ali Mo, and Steve Forrester, from Steve Constructs, helped orchestrate funds to find a cure for diabetes along with many other contributors joining JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) during the Walk For A Cure in Johns Creek, GA. I joined them and together promoted the same cause, wanting a cure for diabetes in pets, too. The Veterinarian community learns from the studies done for people with diabetes. There have been many strides done since the day of boiling syringes before taking a shot of insulin (I am dating myself). We now have glucose monitors to test the blood, keto-diastix to test the urine and blood sugar range, we utilize the continual glucose monitors from Medtronic pumps to watch how to stabilize the glucose level in pets, we have disposal syringes and different types of insulin depending on the level of diabetes. There is MORE IN THE WORKS.
